The History of Carey
We are a small traditional Baptist church, set in an older residential part of Kettering; five minutes walk from the town centre.
We have tended towards a pastoral ministry both to the church members and the local community, supporting many organisations within and other local churches, schools and a residential home.
The town has 3 Baptist churches, Fuller, which is situated in the town centre, is the largest with ourselves and Rockingham Road both toward the north end of town.
Where we have come from:
In 1892, the centenary of the B.M.S., the Fuller Baptist Church started a mission in Nelson Street.
In 1894 51 members of Fuller were drafted to become Carey Memorial Baptist Church.
In 1911 the foundation stones of the present church were laid to accommodate a mixed congregation of 800 people. In the latter years some of the back pews were removed and a new room was made - the church room.
Where we are:
We have 51 members, an average adult attendance at morning worship of about 60 plus Sunday School of approx 12 Children ranging from 3 to 15 and a conventional form of worship with an organ.
House groups are run regularly to which all members and friends were invited.
Organisations:
Junior Church - consisting of about 20 children with 8 leaders in 4 age groups
Boys' Brigade consisting of about 24 boys in 3 sections.
Girls' Brigade consisting of about 30 girls in 3 sections
Parents and Tots enjoy an afternoon of fun and games
Railway Club - about 24 members and friend meet once a month.
Sci-fi Club - 4 friend meet about once a month
We operate the "Safe to Grow" policy as set out by the Baptist Union
The church owns a 3 bedroom terraced house in the north end of Kettering which is currently rented out.
We actively support the Kettering and District Fellowship of Baptist Churches and the "Churches Together in Kettering and District". This includes contributions to the Link-up magazine.
We share in exchange visits with churches both in our area and from outside.
